Yoga for Headaches, Jaw Tension & Neck Pain Relief

Gentle yet deeply effective way to release tension.
This class is something truly special—something I have created from my own experience and knowledge, combining yoga, breathwork, and self-massage with my background in physiotherapy and headache disorders.
It’s a gentle yet deeply effective way to release tension and find more ease in your body and mind.
The classes are held every Thursday from 17:45 to 19:00 at FOKUS, Strandvejen 19, 9000 Aalborg (it’s conducted in Danish).

Yin Yoga & Gentle Yoga Classes
More and more research shows how yoga helps with headaches and chronic tension—not just by moving the body, but by working on a deeper level.
It’s a beautiful combination of physical release, breath awareness, and a shift in how we hold stress, thoughts, and emotions.
With my background as a physiotherapist and a Master's degree in Headache Disorders, I bring together both science and intuition to support you in finding relief.

The Benefits of Yoga
Yoga helps balance the nervous system by activating the parasympathetic response (rest & relax) and reducing stress and tension. Through breathwork, gentle movement, and meditation, yoga lowers cortisol levels, enhances relaxation, and improves overall well-being.
Reduction in Headache Frequency and Intensity
Yoga helps reduce the frequency, duration, and intensity of headaches by improving circulation, reducing muscle tension, and modulating pain perception.
A 2020 randomized controlled trial published in Neurology found that adding yoga therapy to standard medical treatment for migraines led to a 48% reduction in headache frequency, compared to 12% in the control group receiving only medication.

Regulation of the Nervous System and Stress Response
Chronic headaches are often linked to an overactive sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight response). Yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest), reducing cortisol levels and autonomic dysregulation.
A study in The Journal of Headache and Pain (2018) showed that yoga practitioners had lower sympathetic activity and reduced heart rate variability, correlating with decreased headache episodes.
Improvement in Musculoskeletal Imbalances and Tension Release
Poor posture, jaw clenching, and tightness in the neck, shoulders, and upper back contribute to tension-type headaches and migraine triggers. Yoga stretches and strengthens these areas, relieving mechanical stress.
A 2014 study in Cephalalgia reported that patients with chronic tension-type headaches who practiced yoga had a significant decrease in pericranial tenderness and cervical stiffness compared to those who did not.

Enhanced Emotional and Pain Regulation Through Breathwork and Meditation
Chronic pain and headaches are linked to altered pain processing in the brain. Pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation improve pain tolerance, emotional resilience, and cognitive control over pain perception.
A 2019 study in Pain Medicine found that meditative practices combined with controlled breathing reduced headache-related disability by 36% in individuals with chronic migraines.
Can Yoga really help with headaches and pain?
Yes! Specific Yoga practices, especially Yin Yoga, can help release tension in the neck, shoulders, and jaw, regulate the nervous system, and support pain management. I offer special Yoga classes designed for people with headaches, where we focus on deep relaxation, breathwork, and gentle movements that promote relief.
Do I need to have experience with Yoga to join your classes?
Not at all. My classes are accessible to everyone, whether you are completely new to Yoga or have experience. The movements are gentle, and I guide you through each step, ensuring that it feels safe and effective for you.
